    2020 Lake Placid North American Challenge

    December 14 & 15 2020

    Enjoy marathon skating on the famous Lake Placid Olympic Speed Skating Oval! 

    Saturday December 14: 9:00 am warmup, 9:30 am start 5k & 21k 

    Sunday December 15: 9:00am warmup, 9:30 am 42K start

    Race distances: 5K, 21K, and 42K. 

    Novice skater's 5K race: $10

    If you're new to marathon skating, the 5K, at 12.5 laps, is a good start; 

    novice skaters are encouraged to participate! 

    Either 21K or 42K only: $25

    Both 21K and 42K race: $40

    All 3 Races: $50

    Please select the distances you plan to skate in the registration entry and on the form to help us organize registrations for the timers.

    Any changes to the schedule will be posted on our website, on the event announcement, and on the Lake Placid Speed Skating Club Facebook page. 

    Chip timing will be utilized. 

    To participate in this meet, you must be a member of US Speedskating, Skate Canada, or an equivalent ISU member skating organization. For those who are not members of a National Governing Body, one day racing licenses will be available for $20 per event. Access the form below and please bring completed copy with payment to check in. 


    Check in for the marathon starts at 12 noon on Friday and will continue until 8 pm at Lake Placid Skate Shop, in the red building across from the Oval.

    Both days: 8 am start time (warmup)

    Age classes

    Pre-Junior (age 12 and under)

    Junior (age 13-18)

    Senior (age 19-29)

    Masters A (age 30-49)

    Masters B (age 50 and up)


    500 - 1000 - 1500 - 3000*

    *Only the top four skaters in each age class (after the first three distances) will be eligible to skate the 3000 meter distance. 

    To help our Canadian friends in a difficult currency exchange situation, we are offering Canadian rates which will make the rates the same as they would be for American participants (due to the exchange rate). Please email us for the code to enter at this rate. 

    This race is sanctioned by US Speedskating. 

    Initial seeding will be based upon of most recent results within two years.

    Categories may skate together at the discretion of the race director.

    The meet director can truncate the competition distances due to weather or time considerations. All efforts will be made to complete competition distances in their entirety.
